Off for an Early Morning Run to Austinmer

Club Lotus Australia Austinmer Run

Ed Burton, sub, sub, sub organising committee of Club Lotus Australia and self-professed owner of the Club’s most understate Elise, has kindly organised a morning run to Austinmer and the Austi Beach Cafe for Sunday the 23rd of October.

The plan is to meet at the Royal National Park alongside the playing fields at 8:00 AM to leave at 8:15. The run will then travel down the coast road to Austinmer for a civilised stop for coffee and breakfast at Austi Beach Cafe (104 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Austinmer) arriving around 9:00AM. Plenty of parking is available in the park opposite the cafe.

For those interested in extending the run, the drive into Kiama can be done along some spectacular country roads.

If you’re interested in coming along, please drop us a line so we can give the cafe an idea of numbers.

News from Western Australia: Eddie Lankhorst’s Quokka Talk for October, 2016

Quokka Talk October 2016

The Western Australian sprint scene changed dramatically when the RAC Driver Training Centre closed its doors to all motorsport activities due to noise complaints.  This has left our small community rocked, leaving us with only one local (heavily booked) racetrack to play on. There is a group fighting to reverse the closure but even then it will be some time before we hear more.  As such our sprint championship has been abandoned and our calendar needing a change.

Another change to our calendar is our planned EMR to Tom Riley’s car collection which has now been rescheduled for the new year as Tom had other commitments on our planned date.

So our Calendar is:

October

  • FibreGlassics car run Sunday 9th Oct 8am meet at Mean Machines, Morley
  • Boab Meet n Eat Monday 10th Oct 6pm Kings Park
  • EMR Sunday 16th October 8am meet at Guildford Railway car park
  • British Auto Classic Sunday 30th Oct car display at ElCaballo Resort, Gt. Eastern Hwy. Wooroloo – contact Eddie 0414 431 589 for details.

November

  • Boab Meet n Eat Monday 14th Nov 6pm Kings Park
  • EMR Sunday 20th November 8am meet at Guildford Railway car park

December

  • Christmas EMR and BBQ – Bullsbrook Sunday 4th December (details to follow)
  • Barbagallo Speed Event Series Saturday 3rd December

Next year I also plan on including a weekend away to the Ferguson Valley region for a weekend of driving some brilliant roads. And don’t forget Lotus 2017 at Beechworth in Victoria, book your accommodation today so as not to miss all the action and fun.

Remember stay tuned for all local events via our facebook page “WA Lotus Group”.  Look forward to meeting all Perth Lotus owners at our next event.

Ashton’s President’s Prattle: October 2016

President's Prattle

Heavens, it’s October already!

October means you need to start getting organised for Christmas, and that in turn surely means joining the CLA Christmas Party at Bombini’s doesn’t it? If you haven’t already, drop me a line and transfer the funds – $35 per head. Do it now.

Huge thanks to everyone who came to the AGM. Your Committee all resigned and mostly stood again, so thank you to all of them for continuing the good fight. Enormous thanks to Kris for her eight years as Treasurer, and an equally large measure of thanks to Greg Cliffe who has taken over. Welcome Greg.

We had a spectacularly fun day last Sunday at Ebony Hall, and very grateful thanks to Anne, James and Jen for hosting us in spite of the painful gap in proceedings due to the loss of Maurice. We raised a fat wad of cash in his honour for Beyond Blue.

We also ran the second round of Round the Buckets, which gave Pete Walker the chance to defend his title. He lost it to Stephen Palmer, also in an Elan. Well done Stephen for continuing the now-traditional trouncing by old of new. We’ll be back in the paddock in March for a different format of event.

The last weekend in October is the third LOTD (Lotus Only Track Day). These are brilliantly run, fantastic value for money (four 15 minute sessions over the day) and very social. If you haven’t done one, do this one at Winton. And bring your regularity car to keep me company at the back of the pack (this’ll be a shakedown for the Eleven). Email PJ at SSC – [email protected] and he will sort you out.

The following weekend is Targa High Country, in which 16 Lotus cars will be competing. Come and have a fun weekend with us; I’m running the Eleven in the Tour category which should be interesting.

Don’t forget that Tyre Kick and Coffee is on for the 16th and an EMR to Austinmeer is happening on the 23rd, so no excuses for failing to get the car out of hibernation.

Now I just need to service the front calipers on the Elan in time.

Elsewhere news has surfaced that Proton may sell Lotus – front runners apparently are Renault or Toyota, with Peugeot/Citroen also in the running. Could be interesting!

I look forward to seeing you out and about, and hopefully you’ll see photos of the Eleven running shortly.. but don’t hold your breath.

Keep it safe, upright and on the blackstuff.

Pip pip,
Ashton

Lotus Photos: Eggs Benedict & Round the Buckets 2016

Club Lotus Eggs Benedict 2016

Anne Blackwood kindly invited Club Lotus Australia back to Ebony Hall this past Sunday, the 25th of September, for our annual Beyond Blue Eggs Benedict in joyful memory of Maurice Blackwood.

Despite some threat of rain throughout the week, we enjoyed a beautiful Spring Sunday together catching up for a social Sunday brunch. We also held another brilliant Round the Buckets, which was, as always, tremendous fun. Congratulations to Stephen Palmer, who wrested the John Dawson Damer Trophy from Pete Walker’s hands.

A massive ‘THANK YOU!’ is due to Anne for hosting us once more, putting on a magnificent brunch and encouraging us to have some fun in our Lotuses. A great time was had by all and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.

LOST Fraternity Run to Caves Beach Hotel

LOST Fraternity Caves Beach

The LOST Fraternity will gather on Sunday the 25th of September for a run to the Caves Beach Hotel for a coffee and some breakfast.

The run will kick off at 9AM from Belmont Car Park, where the highway runs along the waterfront, to leave at 9:15AM. For those who would like to meet up at the hotel, they plan to arrive around 9:30AM.

The location looks magnificent, and this spring weather is perfect for road tripping. Why not join them? Contact Jack if you’d like to let him know that you’ll be joining, or if you have any questions.
