The 24th and 25th of June were busy ones at Wakefield Park, with an excellent turnout of Lotuses making their way to Wakefield Park for a motorsport double header.
The weekend kicked off early on Friday with Simply Sports Cars‘ Lotus Only Track Day. These days have been consistently excellent, offering plenty of track time, a relaxed atmosphere and a great opportunity to catch up and socialise away from the track. Friday was no exception – despite Wakefield Park’s meteorological mischief!
Rain throughout the day made for some slower, but likely more exciting, laps before the sun came out in the afternoon to dry out a few bits of tarmac to play on.
The event was an especially big one for the Simply Sports Cars team, who announced their sponsorship of Targa High Country and Targa Tasmania. Grant Denyer has signed on as Lotus Cars Australia’s brand ambassador, as well as the team driver, and with the Simply Sports Cars team providing support we’re sure he’ll be right up at the pointy end!
“The Lotus Only Track Day for June held a few extra surprises for attendees, as the event was also used to announce our new Lotus Brand Ambassador and Team Driver Grant Denyer, allow the media to experience the Evora 400 for the first time on the track and the road and to confirm our intentions to enter the 2017 Targa Australia Championship.”
“This was topped off by the later confirmation that Simply Sports Cars has taken over distribution for Lotus in Australia.”
“Goulburn treated us to a morning of showers, sun and cold winds. This led to tricky conditions for all, including Grant who had his first taste of the Exige V6 Cup R on track in our Race group.”
“We had over 60 cars in attendance and the varied wet and dry conditions during the day gave plenty for drivers to think about. I’m sure it was also a busy one for the instructors, who were helping owners learn more about their cars.”
“To take the edge off the wintery conditions, we had our coffee engineer Stu keeping everyone warm with fresh espresso under the gas heaters.”
“A big special mention to the hard working mechanic & engineering crew from Simply Sports Cars who were on hand to help everyone out on the day. They worked tirelessly in sub 5 degree temperatures all day long including pack down and the long drive back to Sydney.”
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the proactive manner in which Simply Sports Cars have been building the Lotus brand in Australia as well as the excellent relationship we’ve formed with them (and their terrific work looking after our cars!) We wish the team all the best!
