Mark Meletopoulo leading Brett Monk and Graham Allen up the hill to the back half of the circuit
On a far-too-hot Saturday morning, the 15th of March, we gathered at Sydney Motorsport Park’s South Circuit to open the 2025 CSCA supersprint series, which was kindly organised by the Sprite Car Club of Australia. Let’s wrap up the day and enjoy a few photos with thanks to Brett Stevens, who took the day off competing and made a herculean effort to cover the event out in the sun, and Seth Reinhardt, who escaped to shelter much more quickly.
The Sprite Car Club did a magnificent job of organising the meeting, which ran for the first time with the MX5 Club of NSW and attracted a capacity entry – 96 drivers setting a time on the day.
Taking shelter from the heat between runs
The MX5 Club members were a brilliant addition to the day and fit with the spirit of the meeting perfectly, and it was wonderful to see the paddock buzzing with as much energy as the track all day long despite the heat. That said, the heat did take its toll on times and by the time the second run had gone out conditions were already getting too hot to wring the best out of the cars (not to mention the drivers.)
Seven Club Lotus Australia members entered the event, and comprehensively commanded the top 10 by the end of the day, albeit not position 1. That went to Adam Single from MG Car Club Newcastle in the spectacular Williams sports race car, also the only driver to drop under a minute with a fastest lap of 58.33.

Colin Rudd was the quickest CLA driver on the day, putting in a 1:01.48 in the 2019 Exige, also leading class P3. Geoffrey Linders and Ralph Thompson were only a few tenths off in their Exiges, securing second and third in the class.
CLA Motorsport Committee member Graham Allen steered his 2018 Elise to sixth overall and fastest M2 with a 1:03.85, with Brett Monk also picking up a class win in his 2020 Exige in M3.
Peter Taylor putting the finishing touches on his wheel change
Peter Taylor pedalled his Exige 410 into the top ten with a 1:04.34, a flat seeing him miss the second run as he awaited an emergency tyre delivery care of his son. Peter was closely followed by Mark Meletopoulo who had a great drive in the 2004 Elise to finish 11th overall and fastest R2 with a 1:04.55.
A big ‘thank you!’ to the Sprite Car Club of Australia for putting together a great day of motor sport, and to all of the volunteers who contributed to the day and weathered the difficult conditions.
There will be a short gap between round one and round two, which will follow up on Sunday the 1st of June at One Raceway hosted by the MG Car Club Newcastle. We hope to see you there, as well as at the Club Lotus Australia round on the Sydney Motorsport Grand Prix circuit on Saturday August 16, for which we’re always looking for volunteers – send us an email if you’re able to help out.
