Ashton’s President’s Prattle for April, 2025

Happy Easter! Yes, I know. It’s that time already. What a great first quarter we’ve had, with loads going on.

February and March were packed – on top of our usual Tyre Kicks, we had the first CSCA round of the year, great showings at St Ives, the brilliantly organised and executed run to Burrawang (huge thanks to Craig Sheppard) and of course the excellent Lotus 2025 gathering in Wodonga, expertly put together by the Lotus Club Victoria team, with great representation from the CLA contingent making their way there and back over the first weekend of March.

Then it all got a bit chaotic in the Roskill household, with a minor birthday celebration for yours truly the weekend following L2025, then my fathers 90th the one after that, which obviously necessitated getting to the UK in between.

So, this finds me writing this from a cafe in Rabat, northern Morocco, on a quick break away from the UK. I also managed to find a fantastic five hour route across the Atlas mountains between Marrakesh and Tarandout. You’d have been proud of me – most of it was dirt, and what wasn’t was rough tarmac between the potholes. The rental i10 did us proud but I had to swap it when we got to Agadir as the power steering was making a terrible noise! So we’re in a Dacia Sandero now. And excuse the sacrilege but it’s actually quite good!!

Back on track. April will see the St Ives (Donington Autobrunch) cars and coffee and our usual Carss Park and Gough Whitlam gatherings, and over this side of the world I’ve managed to get a couple of tickets to the Goodwood Members Meeting on 12th, and I gather Bruno Senna will be taking the 97T up the hill so that should make for a decent spectacle. I’ll try for some photos.

Otherwise, I hope the economic ructions going on in the US and reverberating around the world aren’t affecting you personally too much, and this comes with a sunny smile from Morocco.

Take care, and keep it upright and mostly on the black stuff.

Pip pip,
Ashton
